Steve Meerwald
Steve has been involved in the meat and livestock industry since 1978. In 1983 he joined the fledgling Wellard Group where he remained until 2013, firstly in the capacity of General Manager and from 2004 as Managing Director.
Having exported livestock consignments from Australia, New Zealand and the Americas over three decades, Steve has a broad understanding of the issues facing livestock producers and exporters globally.
Steve has provided extensive input into industry policy and direction with terms on the Boards of LiveCorp and ALEC, and a position on the Livestock Export Research and Development Advisory Committee. He has also chaired the Murdoch University Veterinary Trust Advisory Committee and the WA Cattle Industry Management Committee, been Vice Chair of the WA Beef Council, and a member of the WA Sheep & Goat Industry Management Committee. Steve was the chair of the industry committee that developed the first Livestock Export Accreditation Program (LEAP) and held the ignominious title of Chair of the Scabby Mouth Co-ordinating Committee which set a path to the resumption of the Saudi sheep trade.
Since 2013 Steve has focused on his own commercial interests in the agricultural and livestock industries, operating a sheep farming enterprise and a Kikuyu seed harvesting operation while working with the Fasera Group, producing eucalyptus oil, biochar and Australian and international carbon credits.
