Terry has been associated with the livestock and grains industries for more than 40 years as a producer of sheep, cattle and grain in Western Australia.

He is currently chair of the Livestock Export Reserve Fund and chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the Institute of Agriculture at the University of Western Australia.

He retired as Chair of LiveCorp in 2019 after nine years as a Director, and in 2023 as inaugural chair of Grains Australia Ltd. Terry has also chaired the Grains Research and Development Corporation and the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre.
