Darren started contracting in July 1991 in partnership with Bill Adriaens. The following year, he and wife Tania took over the run in their own right and started Spencer Shearing Service. They have now been contracting for 26 years.

The company mostly operates around the Lake Grace area of WA, and has a crew that works from quarters in Lake King.

Darren joined WASIA when he started contracting. He became a committee member to give back to the industry and help make it better to work in. He is also a Life Member.
