Angus Adnam named live export Lifetime Achiever
Australia’s livestock exporters have celebrated the life-long involvement and commitment of one of their own, at a gala dinner held in Darwin as part of the industry’s LIVEXchange conference.Angus Adnam has been presented with the Ian McIvor Lifetime Achiever Award and inducted into the industry’s Hall of Fame, in recognition of his contribution to the industry.
LiveCorp Chair Troy Setter, who presented the award, said Mr Adnam was a true pioneer.
“Angus was one of the very early exporters, venturing into countries where the industry had never been before to open up new markets,” Mr Setter said.
“His whole career has been committed to trade and market access, animal welfare and community development overseas.”
The Ian McIvor Lifetime Achiever Award is named after a previous Hall of Fame recipient, and nominees are judged by their peers for their exceptional service to live exports and reputation in the industry.
Mr Adnam left the family farm at the age of 17 to become a shipboard stockperson, looking after cattle being shipped from central Queensland to northern Sabah.
“I was tremendously fortunate to be part of a team that pioneered livestock exporting to many destinations – facilitating shipments that had many challenges but also created great prosperity for our clients,” Mr Adnam said.
“The industry has been one of my core passions in life and one that has provided a lifetime of memories and friendships. Many of those in the Hall of Fame were friends and mentors, and I’m honoured to join them.”
After several years travelling the world delivering livestock for exporter AUSTREX, Mr Adnam opened the company’s Darwin office in 1975 and its Singapore office in 1983, continuing to travel as it expanded across the globe. He started his own company, AAA Livestock Services, in 2000.
Mr Adnam helped to establish the Northern Territory Livestock Exporters’ Association (NTLEA) and became its first President. He is a Life Member of both NTLEA and the Queensland Livestock Exporters’ Association, and has been a director of the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council and LiveCorp.
